While RawTherapee managed to deal just fine with the noise in D3100 photos, its noise reduction algorithm simply doesn’t produce usable results on Z50. The worst part is that one would think that Z50 image should be salvageable, but that is not always the case. This specific part of the image wasn’t equally out-of-focus on both shots. Z50 on the left, D3100 on the right, RAW, both at 200%. Most notably, D3100 noise appears to mostly on brightness rather than color, whereas most of the noise on Z50 happens in chrominance. Turns out that there’s a little bit of difference in terms of ISO noise between D3100 and Z50. RawTherapee’s Noise Reduction is Kinda Trash But lately, RawTherapee started showing some problems. I didn’t care much about Darktable - having found RawTherapee first - Darktable’s UI was too radically different for me to give it a proper, honest try when RawTherapee did its job just fine. Up until recently, my go-to program was RawTherapee. This is neat, because while I do sometimes use Windows (and sometimes I’m even kinda forced to - Surface Pro 7 comes to mind, with no multi-touch and pen on Linux), I consider myself primarily a Linux user. Meanwhile, RawTherapee and Darktable are both open source and therefore come both in Linux and Windows variety. Not only does it cost money, it’s a) made by Adobe and b) no Linux. To my knowledge, there’s about three serious programs for photo editing:įor me, Lightroom is off the table. If you’re dropping big moneys on a proper camera, you’re probably doing so because you want to have the ability to edit your photos after you’ve taken them. I know that pro photographers will get triggered 2 3 Assuming they’d stumble over this blog, but it’s not like anyone is reading this., but I’m not a pro photographer. But it’s also half the price of its full-frame equivalent Z6 that outperforms Z50 by one ISO step, so I don’t really care. Z50 seems to get a lot of shit on the internet, mostly because it’s ASP-C instead of full frame. Which means that Z50 it is.Īnd then instead of spending €300 on a new lens, Tamius spent €300 1 2 Okay, FTZ is €260 and the 50-250mm Z-mount lens is €360 … so things aren’t quite as bad … Except that Z50 + 16-50mm + 50-250mm kit was about €500 over Z50 body. And it must be Nikon, because I have recently spent €300 on a 70-300mm lens, and I don’t want to spend that kind of money if I don’t have to. My requirements: must be mirrorless, because it’s 2022. In addition to that, I was also getting a little bit salty about the lack of certain features - most notably, video recording on D3100 is kinda trash and you can’t use it as a webcam, either. While D3100 has served me well, but it’s really not great in low-light conditions. On this picture, there’s me, my friend Kris, and an insane amount of noise reduction working overtime. Let’s just say that ISO1600 is that shadowy place over there you aren’t supposed to ever visit. ![]() Yes, there’s noise, but the focused part looks reasonably fine.īut ISO1600 is … well. Noise can be noticed from afar, but with enough noise reduction you might be still able to pass it off as an artistic choice or something: Not an excess of artism - after all, I was merely getting some test pics with my macro rings. ISO800 is where things get noticeably worse, but not disastrously bad. I consider this reasonably good photo in terms of image quality … but let’s skip discussions about artistic qualities. With sunlight, ISO400 and f/5.6 usually left me with “I don’t need a tripod, yay” one over triple digit shutter speeds. On D3100, I typically shot at ISO400 and with a f-stop that goes as low as I can go - normally around 5.6, because I’m a sucker for low FoV, and you can’t open your aperture wider than that. The results can be rather nice: Okay, I know I said “not a single cloud in sight” but this was still bright enough for me to avoid high ISOs. … as long as you’re outside, and the sun is shining, and there’s not a single cloud in sight. My camera of choice used to be Nikon D3100 (with stock lenses, too), which is a nice and decent camera for cosplaying as a pro photographer 0 1 Key phrase: cosplaying as. About two or three times a year, there will be an opportunity for me to take out my camera and take some pictures.

The health and damage output of the enemies increases per room advanced, meaning eventually everything turns into a bullet sponge that kills in a few hits. Mighty Doom is divided into five primary stages, each with 50 rooms (with one exception). All of these issues contribute to an overall sense of repetitiveness. ![]() However, both of those alternate weapons are a one-time use with a cooldown, meaning you're just using the default weapon for the majority of gameplay. And finally, you use just one weapon with two alternates - a secondary weapon and a melee weapon. You can also see the patterns of enemy spawns repeating themselves really quick as well, while there are fights later on that are diverse - many of them unfortunately are not. There are a few damaging surfaces like spikes or interactive moment tiles like teleporters, which are nice opportunities for change but are too few and far between. It might be fun for a little bit, but it'd wear out really fast. It would be like if Classic Doom was just a series of rooms with some blocks around and all you had was a Chaingun. It makes every fight feel same-y, and there isn't any interesting ways to approach combat. Mighty Doom lacks that - each room is a small rectangle with some boxes randomly littered about. One of the hallmarks to any Doom game is the level design - exploring the environment for secrets or using it to your advantage in combat. I actually like the gameplay, but it does suffer from being repetitive for three reasons: (1) enemy compositions usually aren't diverse enough from room-to-room, (2) you primarily rely on just one weapon, and (3) the rooms are bland in layout. In the later stages, you often fight a diverse group of demons each with different attacks and behaviors, which can be quite fun if not a bit overwhelming in some arenas with tight spaces. Besides that, the actual moment-to-moment gameplay is mostly faithful to the spirit of Doom. Most notably, you cannot attack and move at the same time, meaning you need to strategize when to reposition and when to stand and attack. Mighty Doom is a top-down shooter where you advance through stages - fighting demons, dodging attacks, and unlocking upgrades. It's really unfortunate that this is the case, and is a strong reason not to engage with the game. It's a modern mobile title that's cashing in on Doom Eternal's success and it's an always-online game that likely won't be preserved in the long-term. Unlike the previous mobile-exclusive Doom games, this isn't aimed at being a creative spin like the Doom RPGs or a standalone demake like Doom Resurrection. That's the kind of mobile game that Mighty Doom is. One of the updates increased the cost of unlocking upgrades while also reducing stage completion rewards to make the game even more grindy. There's also a VIP pass you can purchase (no option to buy with in-game currency) to earn additional rewards from completing stages. ![]() The auto-resource generator was updated to be time-limited to encourage you to login more often - which is also the role of the daily login rewards. You can watch advertisements daily to earn additional currency or boost the auto-resource generator - and can even watch an advertisement to revive once during gameplay. It's typical mobile-style monetization - able to spend upwards to $100 on in-game currency, various resource bundles, and skins with different gameplay effects. Since this is an always-online mobile game, the game's long-term longevity is questionable - so I wanted to document as much as I could, as well as offer my thoughts on the game.įirst, I wouldn't recommend the game just on the basis of its blatant monetization on an unreleased early access game. Since it's been a long time since I covered this game and considering this is a mobile Doom game, I decided to create a new thread here on the Console Doom subforum. So I have recorded over an hour of no-commentary gameplay going over all the stages and taking a brief look at different menu features. However with my new phone, I'm actually able to record video gameplay of Mighty Doom without any crashes - previously, I just took screenshots. Due to some ridiculous changes regarding monetization and hitting a wall in terms of difficulty, I took an extended break from the game. There was a previous thread on the Doom Eternal subforum where I wrote a few posts commenting on its development. Mighty Doom is a new mobile Doom spin-off based on Doom Eternal that's been in early access testing in Canada and New Zealand for almost over a year at this point. ![]() A meditative soundtrack and stunning audio palette will accompany your efforts. It is built on many of the new ideas gaining traction in U.S. Louis hospital in 2006, but got its own building and separate existence two years ago. The virtual care center started as an office in Mercy’s flagship St. The mess and the noise are on screens, visible in the hospital rooms the staffers peer into by video-in intensive care units far away, where patients are struggling for their lives, or in the bedrooms of homebound patients, whose often-tenuous existence they track with wireless devices. The result is a strange mix of hospital and office: Instead of bright fluorescent lighting, beeping alarms and the smell of chlorine, Mercy Virtual Care has striped soft rugs, muted conversation and a fountain that spills out one drop a minute. It's the product of converging trends in health care, including hospital consolidation, advances in remote-monitoring technology and changes in the way medicine is paid for. Mercy Virtual is arguably the world’s most advanced example of something gaining momentum in the health care world: A virtual hospital, where specialists remotely care for patients at a distance. The nurses wear scrubs, but the scrubs are very, very clean. Instead, doctors and nurses sit at carrels in front of monitors that include camera-eye views of the patients and their rooms, graphs of their blood chemicals and images of their lungs and limbs, and lists of problems that computer programs tell them to look out for. There’s one thing Mercy Virtual doesn’t have: beds. It has nurses and doctors and a cafeteria, and the staff spend their days looking after the very sick―checking their vital signs, recording notes, responding to orders and alarms, doing examinations and chatting with them. ![]() ![]() Louis, nestled among locust, elm and sweetgum trees, the Mercy Virtual Care Center has a lot in common with other hospitals. ![]() CHESTERFIELD, Mo.― Located off a superhighway exit in suburban St. ![]() The night before returning to Athens, we tried to check in with the airlines. There was no shade for them and caused them a lot of pain standing in a long line up. Again, with 2 elderly ladies in the heat. Santorini day - we were brought to port via tender only to be packed on the dock with hundreds of people to wait in a line up to go up via the gondola to the town. There was no apologies, no compensation for frustrations. I was frustrated and disappointed with guest service responses. I explained that the excursion desk didn’t give me one of those, I was told I had to complain to the excursion desk. When I asked where since it wasn’t noted on NCL’s website under the excursions, I was given a brochure noting this. When I tried to complain to guest services about the excursion and the shuttle, there was a rude comment saying “it’s written all over the place that you had to purchase lounge chairs”. We were left to our own devices and had to get ourselves to and from the ship. We were under the impression we would be able to get to town after. There was again, no mention of what to do after the excursion. We sat in his vehicle for approximately 20 mins only to be told ,”No, I’m not taking you”. We asked the driver if he was the shuttle for Norwegian cruise and we wanted to go to town. When we got back to port there was a shuttle in the area for the shuttles. We boarded the bus at the end of the excursion. We had 2 elderly ladies in our group and we’re basically forced to purchase the lawn chairs and umbrella for them. There was no mention of this at ticket purchase from your excursion desk. We arrived to a beautiful beach only to be told if we wanted 2 lounge chairs with an umbrella, it would cost $70 Euro. No explanation of where we were, what towns we were driving through or where we were headed. The “guide” didn’t speak to our group except to receive our tickets. Our group figured we could do our 4h excursion and then head to town. The morning of arrival in Mykonos, there were announcements regarding tenders and shuttles to town. I went to the ship’s excursion desk and purchased our tickets the night before the excursion. The most economical one for our party of varying incomes was your Mykonos beach excursion. Our party of 11 wanted to do one excursion together. I had to go to guest services only to be told everything looked fine and that my credit card was attached to their room. 2 days into the cruise, my kids received a notice to their room saying there was an issue with their onboard account. Again, no mention of this when we first enquired about drink packages months before. This was the moment we were informed about the Greece “law” of no drinking until 6 nautical miles from port or purchase the unlimited drink packages. ![]() We sat by the pool and tried to order a drink. We boarded the ship and were told the cabins weren’t ready yet. I ended up having to put 6 people on my credit card because of all of this. We were told one credit card for each room. There were 3 people in one room which created an issue for on board accounts as well. When we arrived on the day of the cruise, my niece was told $300 US would not be enough to secure an account in the cruise - yet on the website, it clearly states the recommendation of $300 for a 7 day cruise. We all thought we had to create an account to enter our information, yet we couldn’t get passed a certain point for check in without going in a different way. When we tried to check in for the cruise, the website wasn’t cooperating and some of our party either couldn’t enter our credit card information, couldn’t upload our photos or just crashed all together. No mention at that time about the Greece “law” that there was no drinking in any Greek port unless you had the unlimited drink package. Months before the trip we asked about the unlimited drink package for only one person in 2 rooms and were told both people in each cabin would have to purchase. From the onset of planning this cruise, we experienced a lack of customer service with this company. My mother generously paid for 11 of us to go on this “Bucket list” cruise. I wanted to voice my concerns regarding our cruise to Greece July 23,2023. |
